Building Envelope Inspections and Testing
The building envelope design and maintenance is essential to the life-cycle cost, energy performance, HVAC loading and indoor air quality of a building system. IBTS can perform the following services for new or existing buildings:
- Large Building Air Leakage Test per Army Corps of Engineers Standard Protocol
- Thermal Infrared Imaging Diagnostics
- Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) Audits
- Building Envelope Audits
- Building Envelope Commissioning
- Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Testing
- LEED Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) Control Testing
- WUFI Analysis - Heat and Moisture Building Envelope Modeling
- Building Envelope Plan Review and Inspection Services
Large Building Testing
IBTS performs Large Building Air Leakage testing nationwide for General Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and Building Owners. The United States Army Corps of Engineers designed the Air Leakage Test Protocol for Building Envelopes for buildings that are new and undergoing major renovations. Under this directive, issued on October 30, 2009, the test will measure the building envelop air leakage rate on large commercial building using pressurization and depressurization methods.

Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) Field Audits
IBTS serves as a third party quality assurance auditor for ABAA. We conduct architectural field audits and reporting on ABAA certified projects ranging from $1M to $100M across 30 states. IBTS has ABAA certified field auditors located across the country.
As a member of the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA), our certified auditors have received their education through the association offerings. The focus of the association is to educate Architects, Engineers and Contractors on exterior envelope design and construction to improve building efficiency on projects that are commercial, institutional, and industrial in nature. The ISO 9000 principles guide ABAA to raise the proficiency standards by offering the ABAA On-Site Quality Assurance Program.

Infrared Thermography for Building Diagnostics
IBTS performs building diagnostics for residential and commercial structures to measure thermal heat loss/gain for energy efficiency measures, air leakage reduction and electrical/mechanical safety inspections.
Infrared Imaging is a technique that uses an infrared imaging to "see" heat gain or heat loss through nondestructive testing. Thermography is the easiest and quickest method to detect energy waste, moisture and electrical issues in buildings. An infrared camera shows exactly where the problems are and helps focus the inspectors' attention allowing him or her to properly diagnose areas with energy loss.
IBTS also provide Level I Infrared Certification for contractors in New York State at drastically reduced prices through a NYSERDA workforce development grant. Click here for more information.
Building Envelope Plan Review and Inspection Services
IBTS provides pre-construction plan review and onsite field inspection services to building departments, building owners, architects, engineers, and general contractors. Our services include building and energy code compliance, as well as overall building performance consulting.
