News Louisiana IBTS Wins City of Kenner Certification Training Services ContractMay 03, 2010 - City of Kenner, LA: The City of Kenner, Louisiana has awarded an agreement to the Louisiana Institute for Building Technology and Safety (LAIBTS) to provide certification training for the City Code Enforcement and Inspection Department. IBTS was selected after the City went through a lengthy RFP process to score and identify the candidate with the best qualifications, experience and availability to meet a flexible schedule.
IBTS will conduct residential and commercial training courses in Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Plan Review and Permit Technician training over the next several months. The training schedule will be adjusted to fit the Inspectors' schedules, which need to be worked around local construction activities. IBTS will provide training in all of the trade fields so that inspectors' knowledge of the Uniform Construction Codes in Louisiana is enhanced and fine tuned. This will also provide the inspectors with the necessary hands-on-experience of working with the code books, which will ultimately better prepare them in taking the State-required certification exams.
IBTS will issue Certificates of Completion to each student for each course, with a Continuing Education (CE) credit value of 0.1 unit per hour the student attended the course. IBTS is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) certification training program.
Also included is the option for IBTS to provide on-site field instruction with the City Inspectors. IBTS field instructors will provide hands-on applicable training of the Uniform Construction Codes to provide students with practical understanding of codes and code application. This provides further backup, hands on training, to the topic(s) the City inspectors are learning about in the classroom. Joint training sessions in the class and the field build inspector confidence and understanding of the codes much faster than classroom training alone.
The City of Kenner was concerned about an inspection backlog occurring while the City inspectors are in training. IBTS will also provide its own certified inspectors to conduct all residential and commercial inspections for the city during the training, so that backlogs do not develop during this training period. IBTS project managers will work closely with the City Code Enforcement Office and ensure that training is progressing at a steady, comfortable pace, as well as assisting with the day-to-day inspections scheduling and augmentation of inspectors.
IBTS has appointed Saritti Chooniyom, Master Code Professional and Certified Building Official, to act as the task manager for this training project, overseeing all training classes, scheduling and providing inspector augmentation to the City. Greg Blount, Louisiana Branch Manager, will be responsible for ensuring complete customer satisfaction, overall contract management and policy implementation.
