Dulles Corridor Metrorail Expansion

This case study summarizes the role IBTS played in the expansion of the Washington, D.C., Metrorail into the economic hub of Northern Virginia. IBTS served as the eyes and ears for the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) to ensure quality and safety during this 10-year-long project.

Despite having never worked on a program of this magnitude before, we leveraged our prior experience and took full advantage of the extensive knowledge and flexibility of our plan review and inspection teams to make the Metrorail expansion a success. The techniques and lessons learned outlined in this case study could serve as an example for other transportation and infrastructure programs across the country.
