Jorge Rodríguez Ruiz, PE
Director, Puerto Rico Region
Mr. Rodríguez has 40 years of professional experience, with a history of directing teams in the public and private sectors, high-tech manufacturing, and utilities. His leadership spans across disaster reconstruction projects, constructionmanagement, business development, and energy and waste management. As Puerto Rico Region Director, he heads IBTS’ Puerto Rico operations and oversees IBTS’ work with the Puerto Rico Planning Board (PRPB) and subrecipient agreements with several municipios working to recover from the 2017 hurricanes.
Prior to joining IBTS, Mr. Rodriguez worked as a consultant and managing partner for EPJ Renewable, where he provided strategies and recommendations for energy cost reductions, operational efficiencies, and water and wastewater infrastructure and power. He was Executive Director/CEO of the Puerto Rico Electrical Power Authority (PREPA), while serving as President of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA); Mr. Rodriguez also previously served as Executive President/CEO of PRASA. During his tenure, he developed an island-wide contingency plan that prevented the collapse of the electrical system during the peak demand period of the year, in addition to generating $4 billion in revenue and managing a staff of 9,600.
A known leader in the industry, Mr. Rodriguez is a member of the board of directors of the American Electric Power Association, a member of the Large Public Power Authorities Association, and a member of the Energy Commission of College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico. He has his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
