Home Performance Career Training for NY Communities

The Institute for Building Technology and Safety and NYSERDA are offering workforce development training to support specific workforce needs of the Green Jobs- Green New York (GJGNY) Program. GJGNY is a statewide program to promote energy efficiency and the installation of clean energy technologies to reduce energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support sustainable community development and create green job opportunities. Successful implementation of the GJGNY Program depends in large part on strategic deployment of workforce development, training and professional credentialing activities. To this end, IBTS is offering the training to a multitude of organizations and constituencies, including community-based organizations, labor unions, workforce readiness organizations, and others in target regions around the State. IBTS and NYSERDA are offering the following intensive, workforce development training workshops:

  • Introduction to Home Energy (Was $900, Now $443.75):  During this 5-day hands-on workshop, the fundamentals of  Building Science, Heat transfer and loss, Air/moisture transfer, Building Envelope, Blower Door Technology, Pressure Diagnostics, Economics of energy conservation measures, Combustion Safety, Heating and distribution systems, and other topics will be covered. Students will utilize the latest computer simulation tools to configure realistic energy efficiency and health and safety scenarios to be diagnosed and addressed. (This Workshop will prepare students to receive BPI – Building Analyst and/or BPI Building Envelope certification).
  • Level I Infra-Red Thermography (Was $1,600, Now $793.75):  The 4-day Introduction to Infrared Thermography Course is geared to the new infrared camera user and focuses on its use as a diagnostic tool. Skills to be taught include collecting quality data temperature readings, interpreting thermo grams and making informed decisions using heat transfer concepts highlighted by IR cameras. (This workshop shall result in Level 1 Thermography Certification; the exam and certification cost is included in the cost of the workshop)
  • Heating and Distribution Systems Technician (Was $800, Now $400): In this 4-day class students will obtain skills on how to optimize the performance of heating equipment to help save energy and ensure occupant comfort, health and safety, and includes 2 days of hands-on application. A simulation tool depicting system defects and diagnostic pathways for their identification and mitigation will be given to each student. (The workshop will prepare students to receive BPI – Heating Professional Certification)
  • Air Conditioning Technician (Was $800, Now $400):The 4-day Air Conditioning Technician course will present the role of A/C and Heat Pumps within a whole house approach to improve the diagnostic and corrective skills of students to achieve peak performance of systems.  The course will include 2 days of hands on application on various systems.(This Workshop will prepare students to receive BPI – AC/Heat Pump Professional Certification)
