By July 30, 2010

July 30, 2010 – Herndon, VA: The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) are pleased to announce their support for the Home Star initiative under consideration by the US Senate. “We believe the Home Star Program will help reduce household energy consumption and create needed jobs in the building industry,” said IBTS Chief Executive Officer Ashok Goswami. As national leaders in Home Inspection, Quality Assurance, Energy and Incremental Modernization Solutions for the building industry, the two not-for-profit organizations have agreed to create a strategic alliance today, specifically to support Home Star and other initiatives where applicable.

Home Star will create jobs where we need them most, support small businesses, rebuild communities, lower energy bills, foster energy independence, and produce quick results.

Primary focus areas will include:

  • Lowering household energy costs by up to 40%.
  • Training and certifying building code and energy efficiency experts.
  • Creating jobs.
  • Contributing to community improvement and new infrastructure.
  • Weatherization and retrofitting of existing buildings.
  • Advancing green methodologies and improving energy efficiency in the United States.
  • Raising the bar on technological innovation in the building industry with the new Field Inspection Tablet (FIT).

The two organizations each have more than 30 years of national experience with validation of community improvement and quality of life improvement for the citizens they serve. Jeff Arnold, CEO/Executive Director of ASHI, and Ashok Goswami, Chief Executive Officer of IBTS, stand ready to support the Home Star Program if passed by Congress. ASHI’s 6,000-plus members and 80-plus chapters in North America, combined with the capabilities, industry expertise, and national reach brought by ASHI and IBTS, should make Home Star a landmark success.
