CAL FIRE Implements GOVmotus™//FIRE Software to Bring Fire & Life Safety and Fire Engineering Processes Online

By April 2, 2018

April 2, 2018 – Ashburn, VA:

Platform is now live in support of automating CAL FIRE’s processes.

The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is proud to announce that its GOVmotus//FIRE system is now online and supporting the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) within the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).

CAL FIRE is the largest state fire marshal office in the nation and is responsible for inspecting all state buildings, including jails, universities, and government buildings. Given this high volume of work, they were in need of a system that reduced their paperwork-heavy processes and brought it under an automated platform. GOVmotus is a Software as a Service (SaaS) suite, designed by IBTS, that enables municipalities to manage, automate, and track building department processes, as well as manage local licenses. IBTS won a competitive bid to configure and host this off-the-shelf system for CAL FIRE.

“GOVmotus//FIRE has given our department a centralized, efficient location for all of our data while allowing us to better track building survey reports,” said Chief Steve Guarino at CAL FIRE. “We look forward to rolling this system out to our wider user base in the coming months.”

IBTS tailored GOVmotus to meet the specific requirements of CAL FIRE for this initiative, which included configuring the Fire and Life Safety permits, and the Fire Engineering license and certification sets, and within the system. GOVmotus//FIRE also features a self-configuration function, allowing CAL FIRE to easily adjust users, roles, and other administrative aspects. The result is a cloud-based Permit Tracker to be used by CAL FIRE’s agency users, contractors, and vendors, all supporting the building and fire safety oversight of the State’s 60,000 buildings.

“IBTS is proud to be able to support CAL FIRE in this effort,” says Craig Bertolett, Director of Operations at IBTS. “Configuration of GOVmotus to CAL FIRE’s specific requirements will save the agency time, money, and improve safety and fire prevention across these state buildings.”
