February 01, 2008 – Herndon, VA: The Institute for Building Technology and Safety has responded to public demand for green housing by obtaining certification as a Green Rater for both commercial and residential properties. Kevin Powell, Deputy Director of Energy, LEED, and Environmental Services, obtained certification as a LEED Accredited Professional in November. In February, Powell attended and obtained certification at one of the first training and certification programs for residential structures conducted by RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network).
RESNET’s Green Rater certification is the first RATER Advanced Level of Certification adopted in the RESNET Standards. It represents an additional level of training on the non-energy aspects of certifying a home, and the certification is receiving national attention due to the rollout of several national programs such as LEED for Homes. RESNET is cooperating with various national and regional green programs to provide the needed support to certify the thousands of homes which will require certification in the next year under the terms of those programs.
IBTS, as a RESNET Green Rater, is now positioned to assist clients from both the commercial and residential markets as the nation strives to be environmentally responsible
