Karen Johnson
Market Engagement Program Director
Karen has more than 25 years of experience in business analytics, marketing, strategic planning, and market research with a focus on the building & construction, energy, and government sectors.
As leader of IBTS' Business Analytics and Marketing team, Karen oversees IBTS' strategic business intelligence, research, content creation, advertising, public relations, media, and communications and outreach efforts. Her expertise spans a range of methodologies—from market segmentation and competitive analysis to focus groups and usability testing—to shape business development, messaging, campaigns, and service alignment. Through these efforts, Karen’s work reflects a commitment to ensuring IBTS’ services are responsive to market needs, grounded in research, and clearly positioned to help communities and clients succeed.
She has led and supported research efforts for a variety of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, building product and equipment manufacturers, construction and trade contractors, professional and trade organizations; and state and federal government programs. Sample clients include the
U.S. Department of Energy, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, the National Association of Counties (NACo), The World Bank, The Kresge Foundation, NV5, Puerto Rico Energy Bureau, and BASF, among others.
